Ask the Ultima Ambassador Stylist: How Long Will Pro10 Hair Extensions Last?

extensionexample2A No Bad Hair Days Blog reader asks: Once Pro 10 hair extensions are applied with the sewing method, how long will the hair last? Human hair can last up to three months. Can this be achieved with Pro 10?

okelaUltima Ambassador Stylist O’Kela Neveaux says: Yes Pro 10 hair extensions made with Ultima Organic Protein Hair can last as long as human hair extensions. But of course maintenance is the key to the overall healthy appearance. Make sure not to use too much heat (thermal, ceramic or dryers) and be sure to refresh your extensions with water (by washing or misting). Rollers, twist or pin curl sets will also help you keep the curl pattern in your hair extensions. See the Easy Care information on the Ultimahair website.

Ask the Ultima Ambassador Stylists: How to Do a Twist Set

twist
twist(2)
You can curl and straighten Pro10 hair extensions made with Ultima Organic Protein over and over. If you want to restore the curls or wave pattern, a twist set works magic according to Ultima Ambassador Stylists, Lavett Jones and O’Kela Neveaux.

“A twist set is a perfect way to maintain Ultima Pro10’s wavy and curly textured weaves so the curls last. It also can be done with your own hair to give the hair appearance a naturally curly or wavy texture,” Neveaux says.

Technique: Apply mousse or setting lotion to the hair. Then, divide the hair into small sections of two pieces at a time and twist them together as is you were braiding. Next, curl it around your finger and clip or pin it down, or put a small perm rod at the end. Another method is to cornrow the hair toward the back or toward the front – depending on the length – and then place the rod at the end. Applying mousse or setting lotion helps achieve the look.

Miss Coco’s Fabulous African “Barbie” Dolls

AfricanBarbie1In Liberia, Cora Taylor has built a business using her creative flairto create Liberian fashions for Barbie dolls.

Well, they’re not exactly Barbie dolls, she told The Global Post. “These are $1 plastic dolls from Japan,” she says. She buys them at discount chain stores in Texas, Georgia, Maryland and anywhere else she can find them. They look like Barbies, with trim figures and startling bright blue eyes. They aren’t ordinary Barbies, though. They have brown skin.

Taylor, whose full name is Cora Ann Elizabeth Evto Taylor Ferguson, is known as Miss Coco. She makes long dresses and colorful headdresses from a brightly printed African fabric called Lapa.
Since she started sewing lapa clothes for her Barbie look-a-likes in 1992, she estimates she has sold at least a thousand dolls. She used to stock gift shops and boutiques across the U.S. with her mini-masterpieces, but now she is selling from her living room and is planning to launch a website to sell the dolls.

Here Come the Braids! Fake, Real and Hair Extensions

Here come the braids! Jessica Alba, Nicole Richie, Fergie, and Sienna Miller wear their hair in braids. So do Anne Hathaway, Mary-Kate Olsen, Scarlett Johansson and countless other celebrities. Braids were all over the runways in the Paris and New York fall fashion shows, they’re seen on the red carpet and all over downtown New York and LA, and they’ll be everywhere soon.

The fastest way to get long, lush braids? Ultima Organic Protein hair extensions! Extensions come in a wide range of textures, colors and lengths, and a skilled stylist can blend Ultima hair extensions to match your own color exactly.

Teddi Cranford, a stylist at Bumble & Bumble in New York told the New York Observer she was seeing a lot of braids in New York several months ago, but that L.A. is just now catching on. “Hair kind of follows fashion,” she said, citing flowing, bohemian looks being sent down the runway by designers (many of whom have also featured braids, among them influential and decidedly non-bohemian Alexander Wang).

“There are a million different ways,” Ms. Cranford enthused of braids’ permutations. “When they get a cut, I’ll style them with a really natural blow-dry and then just do a cute little braid in the front, and it kind of spices things up a little bit. But I’ve seen women come in and they’ll get a big braid off to the side and then pin it back into a low chignon, a low bun, and then they’re going to put on their fancy dress and off they go!”

Coquette Headpieces: Beautiful Hand-made Head Bands

headband2One of the great things about having hair extensions is that you have the ability to style them in many different ways, depending on your mood and the occasion. Rachel Pishkin, a former New York City Ballet dancer, made a decorated head band for herself on a whim. And before she knew it, she’d fallen into her new business. One friend wanted one, then another, then another. Inspired by the fashion runways and the sirens of stage and screen, Pishkin’s head bands have feathers and findings, sparkles and all sorts of fun things decorating them. Coquette Headpieces are available online and at Bond7 and Bio in New York City.

Ask the Pro10 Ambassador Stylist: What’s the best way to maintain my new weave?

overnightNo Bad Hair Days Blog reader Concetta asks: It has been one week with my new weave (using Pro 10 deep curl) and I love it. But I am a little anxious about the up keep. Some reviews say the curls are going to fall some say curls last; some say to use mousse and some not. Please help. Because so far this hair is worth it, I love the compliments.

okelaPro 10 Ambassador Stylist O’Kela Neveaux says: Whether the curls last or fall truly depends on your maintenance routine. If you use your satin bonnet nightly, and twist the curls together before bed so the hair isn’t all over the place, you should be fine.

Should you use mousse on Pro10 made with Ultima? Pro10 is very water friendly. So, if you were to keep a water bottle handy you may notice that water can give the same effect as mousse without weighing the hair down from the extra product. And here’s lots of information about how to care for your Pro10 weave.
