Hair, not only hair but YOUR hair is a very sensitive subject for many women. That topic becomes even more difficult for us girls who wear hair extensions. There are just so many—clip on, snap on, glue on, weave on… it seems you may never know about all that’s out there.
That’s how I was feeling when I first heard about Prota Regular Weaving. Prota Regular Weaving is not human hair, its also not synthetic hair. Prota is 100% natural collagen protein. Prota hair extensions look, feel, curl or straighten just like human hair. There are a few exceptions with Prota; you cannot color, or chemically treat Prota hair extensions.
When I first used Prota Regular weaving on my hair I was not at all skeptical about it. Because the Prota hair does look and feel just like human hair, and the texture is so close to my own that I was excited to see how it would turn out. I would say that I underestimated Prota, I thought just as soon as I put it in I would be taking it out just because it was not my usual 100% human hair.
Once I had applied and styled the Prota, I couldn’t come up with one complaint, it was inexpensive, the perfect length, color, texture, very comparable to human hair. I was able to easily maintain: I wrapped my hair every night, and sporadically sprayed moisturizer (alcohol free) into it when needed, and also bent the ends of the hair for a smooth curl some mornings. This is also the same thing I do to maintain my human hair weave. I was able to wear Prota happily for 6 weeks. (That is my ideal time length for any weave. I don’t recommend leaving any weave- on or bonded extensions for longer than 6-8 weeks).** If you have to wash the hair you can wash and shampoo with a gentle moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. During this process make sure to smooth the hair with the shampoo from the scalp to the ends, do not scrub the hair (use the same technique for the conditioner) -allow the hair to air dry, or sit under a hood dryer, then style as usual. Temperature settings under 300 degrees are recommended.
I couldn’t get a chance to tell anyone about Prota because; if you didn’t know me you wouldn’t even know that I was wearing hair extensions. As for the people I did know I didn’t get a chance to tell the people I knew about Prota, because they would always ASK me first! Prota is now a hit with me as well as many of my associates.
I really love Prota.
Sincerely,
Raven

When Chris Rock’s daughter, Lola, came up to him crying and asked, “Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?” the comic says he committed himself to search the ends of the earth and the depths of black culture to find out who had put that question into his little girl’s head! The result, the documentary, “Good Hair” opens in theaters on Oct. 9th.
Director Jeff Stilson’s camera followed Rock, and the result is an entertaining, yet remarkably serious, documentary about African American hair culture that received a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Festival this year. More »

A No Bad Hair Days Blog readers asks: I am having an extreme problem finding the loose deep bulk hair. Hype Hair April 2009 issue has a picture of the loose deep bulk so I guess it exists.
Three new bulk styles made with Ultima: Loose Deep, Indian, and Super Wave were introduced at the Natural Hair Show this month, Pro 10 Ambassador Stylist Ngone Sow introduced the new styles to braiders and natural hair stylists. Their appearance is quite natural and they offer a lot of styling versatility because they are made of natural collagen protein. And, they are half the price of human hair, which costs more than $40 per package of 18 inch hair. They are available online through her website.
No Bad Hair Days Blog reader Rochama asks: I know a lot of people who have bought Soft Yaki Pro10 made with Ultima for hair weaves. They say the extensions not only shed, but that the ends turned real ugly when they were washed. Is this true?
Pro 10 Ambassador Stylist O’kela Neveaux says: When you think about it, even the most expensive weaves shed. Even your own natural hair sheds a bit of shedding with regular combing and brushing, no matter how well you have been caring for your hair.
How the ends of Pro10 extensions stand up to wear depends on how you choose to maintain your weave. Here are a few tips for caring for a Pro 10 weave:
o Are you wrapping, rolling, or setting the hair at night? This keeps it from tangling, which causes shedding.
o Are you using a heat of more than 266 degrees? If so, you can damage the ends.
o Were your friends’ Pro10 extensions cut with a razor? That’s not recommended.
o After being washed was the weave conditioned and not over dried? Pro10 made with Ultima should be dried on a low heat setting? A moisturizing conditioner and low heat help to prevent the ends from drying out.
I hope this helps, and please read our FAQs and easy care instructions for Pro10 made with Ultima Protein Hair.

“Katie Holmes: Better Long,” sniped Fox News. “Mrs. Cruise is a real testament to the power of hair extensions. Katie, who has been looking increasingly tired and old lately, showed up for the Japan premiere of Valkyrie looking young, radiant, and like her former self again thanks to some faux locks.”
The Insider and other blogs reported that Holmes’ new look cost $43,000, and took more than 48 hours to complete.
And then Holmes was seen in Los Angeles just one week later with her regular short bob! African-American hair, in all it’s glory and struggle, has come to the White House. The beautiful new First Lady Michelle Obama’s hair has long been subject of blog discussion. After all, when you’re in the public eye every minute of every day, you just can’t have a bad hair day!
Mrs. O’s has tried out a variety of styles, many of which appear to involve weaves and extensions, and she looks more gorgeous all the time. We love Mrs O’s confidence and style – and her demonstration that fashion should be fun.
It will be interesting to see whether the lovely First Lady’s hair ever goes more natural look as she gets more comfortable in her public role.
“Hair is so damn political for us,” said a commenter on The Black Snob’s Michelle Obama Hair Project.
Now, Johnny Wright, long-time hairstylist to first lady, is going to host his own reality TV makeover show, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Will locks, twists, braids, extensions, and weaves be featured? We bet they will!

Wondering what to do with your hair for New Year’s Eve? Here’s a little inspiration for you from Hair Wars, the annual battle of “hair entertainers”.
Hair Wars started in Detroit nightclubs in 1985 as an informal stage show for local hair stylists to show off their hair creations, which include an enormous range of hair extensions. The show celebrates and rewards outrageousness. Stylists compete to create the most unusual and memorable looks. Gravity is routinely defied. Video clips from Hair Wars 2008 are here. The 2009 Hair Wars show will take place in Detroit on Sunday, July 19 at the Hilton Hotel Troy.
At the 2008 show, more than 2,000 people watched 250 models strut the runway. There were women with helicopters on their heads, (”hairy copters) propellers spinning. Another woman balanced a barbecue grill complete with spatulas and tongs in her long locks. Just when it seemed things could get wilder, a lady sauntered down the runway with a four-foot python zipped inside her do. More »

My Nappy ROOTS: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage, an edutainment documentary, takes an unparalleled look at how black hair is used as a prism through which to look at cultural, societal, and political issues in the African American community over time. It covers the bad hair days as well as the great, outrageous, and sometimes dangerous styles throughout African-American hair history.
The full-length film traces the cultural and social struggle that created the rise of the first great Black entrepreneurs and the billion dollar ethnic hair care industry-that exists today. Vivica A. Fox, Patti LaBelle, Ella Joyce and Malcolm-Jamal Warner to name a few, along with historians, authors, journalists, comedians, stylists and barbers, industry business icons like Bernard Bronner of the Bronner Brothers International hair show and others provide historical, professional, and personal accounts on their Black hair journey.
